Professional Experience
Miles D. Monson has been practicing law in Portland since 1995. He is licensed to practice in Oregon and Washington in both state and federal courts, including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. He first obtained his law license in Minnesota after graduating from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, MN in 1992. Prior to private practice, Miles was Bankruptcy Counsel for ITT Consumer Financial Corporation and Assistant Secretary/Counsel for Lyndon Guaranty Bank of New York from 1992-1994. Currently, Miles serves on the Executive Committee of the Debtor/Creditor Section of the Oregon State Bar Association and he is chairman of the continuing legal education subcommittee for the debtor/creditor section.
In May, 2000, he became a partner/shareholder in Anderson & Monson, P.C. He has concentrated his practice on creditors’ rights in state court and federal courts. He regularly represents lenders in state court, both in prosecuting contract claims and defending actions by consumers. He has also developed expertise in representing financial institutions in bankruptcy court and Miles has successfully represented student loan guarantors in bankruptcy court and appellate courts.
Miles and his wife, Karen, have four children—all boys. They live in Portland, where they are active in both church and community affairs. His wife, Karen, is president of the women’s organization at their church and enjoys reading and wood carving. Miles enjoys family, boating, and weight lifting.
